4 questions to Icelandair's Fuel Efficiency Program Manager
During OpenDay 2024, we had the chance to speak with Helga Thordersen, Program Manager Fuel Efficiency at Icelandair. She shared with us her experience as an active member of the SkyBreathe® Community.
Take a look at what she said:
How do you feel about the opportunities for professional development and learning with the community?
I would say that SkyBreathe® offers dedicated courses in fuel efficiency, which are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of aviation professionals. These courses can help operations staff understand and implement best practices in fuel management, leading to more efficient and cost-effective operations.
For example, I attended an introduction to the pilot's eco-flying techniques, which was very beneficial for me since I do not have a pilot’s background.
Have you attended any SkyBreathe® Community events?
I attended the OpenDay in 2024, where a range of topics related to fuel efficiency, best practices in aviation, and the latest advancements in SkyBreathe® were covered.
We also received training in SkyBreathe® and had workshops on fuel efficiency related matters which were very valuable for exchanging ideas, discussing challenges, and building professional connections.
How has SkyBreathe® impacted your organization?
Access to SkyBreathe®’s resources and community knowledge has helped us implement and monitor best practices, leading to significant improvements in fuel efficiency. It has also assisted us in monitoring fuel usage and providing detailed data to track progress and identify areas for further improvement.
Can you share an example of how the fuel efficiency platform has supported you in achieving your sustainability goals?
I would say it is the ability to monitor the status of our best practices in SkyBreathe® in an efficient way and to see where we can improve, that is where we have the most potential benefits. Additionally, we have created customized metrics within SkyBreathe® to track our progress toward achieving our sustainability goals.
