How SunExpress harnesses data-driven insights to boost fuel efficiency
During OpenDay 2024, we had the opportunity to discuss with SunExpress' Flight Operations Engineer, Akin Sanci. He shared many insights on how the airline is boosting fuel efficiency through data and innovative tools.
What are the main advantages of SkyBreathe® Analytics for your team?
We receive analysis cases and questions answers requests from upper management on short notice. With SkyBreathe®, we can give very quick answers. Some analysis required a lot of man effort before using the software. Now we can do it in a short time and go deep down on these issues.
How has SkyBreathe MyFuelCoach® contributed to your overall fuel efficiency goals?
The pilot engagement in SkyBreathe® MyFuelCoach is increasing, and so it is having a positive effect.
Some, especially young flight crew, are using SkyBreathe® MyFuelCoach more and are asking questions on some details, which increases awareness and helps improving some of the best practices achievements.
We are still on the very beginning of this process, we need to increase pilot engagement on SkyBreathe MyFuelCoach® usage.
Can you share your experience with our Customer Success Team?
First of all, we have other product providers, and we receive some support from them. But I think OpenAirlines has the fastest response in comparison to other services we receive as an operations department. So, it's fast and very detailed. Thanks to your colleagues there.
A specific example I can recall, it's related to analysis we do to evaluate a specific improvement in our operations. For instance, we changed our speed procedure and had some issues with it. We had some discussions with support, and it helped us to make an analysis to see if the procedure change was helpful or not.
Can you describe your overall experience with SkyBreathe® Advisor?
I think it's is very helpful to see your potential according to some facts, other operators average and according to your average. It gives you some insights on where you should focus. That is good. I think it is also useful to pinpoint the weakest points and the highest gains.
We had some advices to improve it and they ares being considered, so it's nice to hear there will be some new functions.
In which way the new SkyBreathe® Benchmark module has helped your strategy on fuel efficiency?
The thing is that we can compare our current conditions with the previous years, but also to see the trends at the aviation world: what are the general average and at which point we are at. Then we can tell our managers that, we are not very high at some achievement, but this is what we have in the aviation world, so there is a far way to go but we are not in a very bad condition. That's what we can see from the SkyBreathe® Benchmark.
How was your experience at OpenDay 2024?
This was the first of OpenDay I attended. The organization was perfect, and the presentations were useful.
Especially the workshops where we did some work using SkyBreathe® together, creating some measures together is very helpful, besides the presentations in the morning session.
So it was nice. Thank you.
Would you like to share some words about the OpenAirlines team?
The prompt reply and very open discussion on their tools is a big advantage.
It's not the case for every service we receive. There are a lot of barriers sometimes, and it takes some time to find a solution to discuss some details.
But you are very transparent about what you do, what you cannot do or what you plan. And it's a very innovative product, so the colleagues working on these issues are very helpful.
