Mexico City, September 13th, 2023 – The dynamic, fast-growing and ultra low-cost Mexican airline, Viva Aerobus, is improving its carbon footprint by adopting SkyBreathe® 360° eco-flying platform to optimize fuel consumption, and reduce costs and CO2 emissions. It is a key opportunity for the airline to level up its fuel efficiency program and environmental commitment.
With a fleet of 77 aircraft expected to grow, the low-cost carrier has decided to use innovative digital technologies to optimize its operations and reduce its environmental impact. To this end, Viva Aerobus started using OpenAirlines’ solutions, the world leader in aviation fuel efficiency.
The platform solution SkyBreathe® uses sophisticated Big Data Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning to automatically analyze billions of data records from all types of data sources, including complete FDR records, operational flight plans, ACARS, etc. The software identifies the most relevant saving opportunities by combining them with environmental data from actual flight conditions (payload, weather conditions, ATC constraints, etc.). It provides a series of recommended actions that can reduce their total fuel consumption by up to 5%. Maintenance engineers, dispatchers, pilots, and fuel managers can all track various green operation procedures and work hand in hand to achieve better performances.
With the determination to go even further, Viva Aerobus has chosen to involve all its pilots by giving them access to SkyBreathe® MyFuelCoach. This application enables them to see their individual performance. Pilots can see timely insights into fuel usage to make more data-driven decisions and minimize fuel consumption and CO2 emissions on their flights.
“The SkyBreathe® software helps us improve our overall fuel management program. Since the app’s opening to pilots, they are much more aware of their fuel performance and how they can improve, and we’ve already observed interesting progress. We believe involving most of our teams will help us achieve significant fuel savings and lower our carbon footprint. We’re confident that these tools will support our growth effectively while developing a stronger fuel-conscious culture across the airline. We all embrace the goal to reduce our carbon footprint”, said Juan Carlos Zuazua – CEO of Viva Aerobus.
“We're thrilled to collaborate with Viva Aerobus and strengthen the SkyBreathe® users community in Latin America. We are convinced they have made the right choice in integrating digital solutions to enhance their fuel management program. As an active and committed airline, we do not doubt this will help them achieve their sustainable objectives”, said Alexandre Feray – OpenAirlines CEO and Founder.
Conscious of the climate situation, Viva Aerobus seeks to strengthen a much more sustainable operation by various means: a high-performance fleet comprising recent aircraft, technological tool integration, Sustainable Aviation Fuels usage, recycling, carbon offsetting, among many other efforts.
Viva Aerobus is Mexico’s ultra-low-cost airline. It started operations in 2006 and today it operates the youngest Latin American fleet with 77 Airbus: 45 Airbus A320 and 32 Airbus A321. With a clear vision to give all people the opportunity to fly, Viva Aerobus has democratized the airline industry with the lowest fares in Mexico and the lowest cost structure in America, making their flights the best value offer.
